With nine separate sites across the UK, and up to 150 users accessing data remotely via Citrix boxes, there’s a high demand for reliable and uninterrupted access which depends on multiple servers and a resolute IT infrastructure. But it was one particularly alarming incident, which led to the hosted, fully outsourced solution that Technique have now put in place for Corderoy.

 

Brian Payne, Director of Finance takes up the story. “It was actually a fire in a basement neighbouring our head office which made us re-evaluate how we managed our IT infrastructure. The fire took out our internet lines and aside from the obvious safety issues, the impact was that all our staff temporarily lost access to emails and vital data. With our server room isolated from the rest of the network, Technique was able to provide a solution, offering to temporarily host servers at their own data centre until we were ready to pick things up again.”

 

From Technique’s point of view, maintaining servers that are on the same site actually makes things that bit easier.  If something needs updating or replacing, its IT Technicians can very efficiently just pop into the next room and make the change.

 

It wasn’t long before the benefits also became apparent to Corderoy. “We realised that having our IT equipment hosted elsewhere actually had some really big wins,” said Brian.

 

“First and foremost we no longer needed to have a bank of servers at our main office and a separate server at each of our sites. Technique could look after all of it in a purpose built environment, housed at the right temperature and with the resilience of an uninterruptable power supply. If there’s a problem, Technique is right there to fix it and overall we found we could actually save money on the costs of running our own server room temperature control system, which we no longer needed.”

 

As well as hosting Corderoy’s servers and data, Technique continues to provide a full remote support service for individual users, a service that has been in place for over 15 years. Asked about the longevity of the partnership and the overall benefits of having Technique as an IT support partner, Brian is clear.

 

“When something goes wrong, I want it fixed and quickly. Technique looks after all of that so I don’t have different suppliers arguing about the cause of the issue and whose responsibility it is to resolve it. I call Technique and have total confidence that they will find the root cause and get it working again. Having just the one port of call not only reduces any IT downtime, but frees up my time for other things.”
